She performed live on the show with director/actress Penny Marshall and won the chance to have a speaking role in Garry Marshall's feature film Dear God with Greg Kinnear. This chance of a lifetime brought her back to the Oprah Winfrey show a total of three times. Oprah sent a crew to film Ms. Ranftl in her first speaking role and brought her back to the show to share this experience with the world. In addition, Oprah welcomed Ms. Ranftl back to the show after winning Female Talent of the Year in New York in 1997.
After winning this prestigious award, Ms. Ranftl headed to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. She lived in LA for seven years where she had minor roles in two more Garry Marshall films, Raising Helen and Princess Diaries 2. She also had her first Equity role in Tortoise VS Hare playing the role of Tina the Tortoise. In addition to film and theater, Ms. Ranftl had various jobs in the world of Voice Over. Some of these commercial spots included being the voice of Old Country Buffett and Farmers Insurance. She is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Film Television Radio Association Unions.
Once she felt she had completed her journey as a professional actress, she returned to Chicago to share her passion for theater with others. Ms. Ranftl returned to school and earned her BA in English and Secondary Education. Besides acting in shows within the community, Boy Gets Girl, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, Glass Menagerie and Vagina Monologues, she is now also enjoying coaching and directing.
